Using an image for a background or a watermark

You can use an image in a report as a background or a watermark. You can either upload an image or select one that is in the RC-Reporter Gallery. For example, you can apply an image as a background or a watermark indicating that the report is 'preliminary' or 'draft' in order to show that the report is still in progress. When you select the Fill position for the image, the image is scaled to the extent that no portion of the image is cut off.

You can also apply a uniform color for a background or a watermark. In either case, you can lighten the background or watermark by using a slider to change the opacity.

The watermark appears as the top layer in the report and the background appears as the bottom layer in the report.

When you export the report as a PDF file and print it, the watermark appears on top of the report's content. It is semi-transparent by default unless you change the opacity setting. If you choose the maximum level of opacity on the Watermark Image Settings dialog box, the components in the report are obscured when you print the PDF file. Conversely, the background appears behind the report's contents and it is semi-transparent by default unless you change the opacity setting.

Note: Backgrounds are more visible when the Background settings of the components in a report are set to Make Transparent. For more information about making a component's background transparent, see Customizing a component.

Use the following steps to add an image for a watermark or a background on a report:

  1. Open or create a report.
  2. Click the report Settings icon.
  3. Click Set Background or Set Watermark to open the Background Image Settings dialog box or the Watermark Image Settings dialog box, respectively.

You can use the dialog box to choose an image or to specify a solid color.

  4. To choose an image:
    1. Click the ellipsis and navigate to the location of the image you want to use,

      — or —

Click Gallery and select an image from the Image Gallery dialog box. (Images that you previously navigated to and selected remain available for selection in the image gallery.)

    2. In the Position box, choose one of:

Fill — Scales the image to the extent that the entire image is visible.

Center — Centers the image in the middle of the report at its original size.

Center-Top — Places the image at the top of the report, in the center.

Tile — Repeats the image to fill the background of the report.

  5. To choose a solid color, click the red X to open the color palette and click a color to apply it to the report.
  6. Move the slider to select an Opacity Level for the image. Moving the slider button to the right results in the image being more opaque, while moving the slider to the left results in a more transparent image.
