Data Sets

A Data Set is a collection of points that share similar characteristics. For example, points in a Data Set have the same unit and a similar descriptor (name). Data sets allow you to quickly gather together similar points for use in reports.

When you use one or more Data Sets in your chart components, you can:

  • Create queries for Data Sets the same as you would for any other data series.
  • Show every point defined in one or more Data Sets in the Ranking component.

For example, a Data Set could include thermistor point data from every room in a building and be displayed as chart columns in the Ranking component.

  • Cycle through each point in the Data Sets used in other chart components.

For example, you could view the temperature values for every room, organized by date and time, by including a Data Set that groups related temperature points in a Date Range component and then cycling through the rooms by using the Identifier Selector.

  • Use Data Sets to analyze groupings of data to find exceptionally high or low values across similar data types.

For example, a Data Set could include the VAV valve position for all of the VAVs in every room in a building. When this Data Set is used with a Data Set for room temperatures, you can compare VAV valve positions to room temperatures in the respective rooms.

When compared in a report using the Ranking component, these two Data Sets can reveal the rooms with the highest temperatures in relation to valve position.

  • Add a new point to a system, and if its name contains the same sequence of characters as an existing Data Set, then the point is automatically added to that Data Set.

The following sample Data Sets are available in RC-Reporter for you to view and explore:

  • Sample Room Temperature
  • Sample Room Setpoint
  • Sample Room Occupancy
