Adding and configuring a chart component

Use the following steps to add and configure a chart component:

  1. Click a report component to the right of the report canvas to add an empty component to the report canvas.
  2. Click the gear icon in the component's banner and then click Edit, or use the Click to edit link.
  3. Click the Settings tab. In the Title: area, replace the word Untitled in the text editor with an appropriate name for the component.
  4. On the Edit tab, in the top left drop-down list, choose to render the data as a chart or a table, or a combination of the two.
  5. Click Add Report Data to add data to the component. In Report Data dialog box, select Points in the drop-down list and click Go. Choose points from the grid area in the Choose Points dialog box. For more information about adding data to a chart component, see Report Data and Edit Component dialog boxes.
  6. Note: Always look at the dates in the Dates column before choosing your points, and ensure the points you choose have a span of dates sufficient for your analysis.

  7. For some chart components, click in the left-most column in the grid area to select the type of chart, such as Column, Line or Stacked. You can also click the color picker to change the color of the data series when rendered in the chart. For more information about choosing chart types, see Components available for reports.
  8. Click in the Query column to refine the data used in the data series. For more information about adding queries to a chart component, see Query.
  9. If not already defined, click in the Unit column to enter a unit. RC-Reporter allows you to enter any text for a unit. Data series with the same units are placed on the same y-axis scale. For more information about setting units, see Unit.
  10. Define the scale of the y-axis as a minimum and maximum in the Scaling column. You can have up to two y-axes represented in a chart: right and left. The first data series (or multiple data series) will be on the left y-axis. Subsequent data series with differing units will be on the right y-axis. For more information about scaling on the y-axis, see Scaling.
  11. Define the major gridline divisions for data series values that appear on the left y-axis. If the default gridlines values aren't satisfactory, enter a number in the Increment column that represents the difference between each gridline value. For more information about incremental gridlines, see Increment.
  12. Click in the Dates column for a data series to define the first and last records to be included in the data series.

Note: Enter the lower date (end date) before entering the upper date (start date).

For more information on setting date ranges, see Dates.
